The 3rd Webinar on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems occurred between the EU, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. The goal was to share common principles and actions that can consolidate the relationship between both regions.

Accelerating the transition towards sustainable food systems through the EU's "Farm to Fork" strategy is a commitment that requires strategic partnerships. Latin America and the Caribbean is a strategic trading partner for the EU in agriculture. In this context, the EU-Latin America and Caribbean Dialogues on Sustainable Food Systems have been launched.

The Webinar held at the end of September between the EU and Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru was the third in a series of four sub-regional ones on the topic and allowed to share concepts, principles, and common actions that can consolidate the relationship between both regions.

The three participating countries openly support the European Green Pact and the EU strategy as they correspond to their own visions and priorities for the agricultural sector. In the medium/long term these countries intend to implement policy measures to accelerate the transition towards fairer, healthier, and more environmentally friendly food chains.

The two-day Webinar was moderated by Renaud Guillonnet, expert in innovation, agricultural trade, and policies for sustainable food systems. On the first day, work began with comments from Sandra Gallina, Director General of Health and Food Safety at the European Commission, and Juan Rodo Altamirano Quispe, Deputy Minister of Policies and Supervision of Agrarian Development in Peru. Following this, the different speakers began to explain their regional and national strategies and action plans. On the second day, the same format of presentations and debates followed, but this time on the themes of the sustainable use of pesticides, agroecology as a transition of agricultural systems, and food loss and waste.

The event allowed an overview of existing principles and actions on which joint work can be strengthened, to build what should be a global and coordinated response to the main challenges of climate change and the sustainability of food systems.
